that with as far as I have traveled by bicycle that I would enjoy these days of lounging by the pool but I find myself strangely sad that the trek is over. I went for a 25 mile ride yesterday just for something to do… Oh well Ill be back in MN soon.

Nor-Cal
Ive got to say of all the places Ive been, Northern California has got to be my favorite for biking and camping. The Redwoods are absolutely amazing! There are many primitive campgrounds (free of charge) that you have to hike a 1/4 mile or more to get to but its worth the effort. More states should have free campgrounds. The forests here are phenominal to camp in. Few bugs to bother ya and the scenery is incredible. What a magnificent place to end the trek of a lifetime!

Crescent City
Hanging out in Crescent City,CA for a couple days. Arcata isnt but a days ride from here and my bus home doesnt leave until the August 12th so Ive got some time to kill. There are several primitive campgrounds along the coast throughout the Redwoods so I plan on camping in them all as I slowly make my way to Arcata. Once there the mileage of this trek will be a little over 3200 miles. Ive seen many lightwieght bicycists on Hwy 101 (Pacific Coast Hwy). I call them lightwieght because they are only on 2 or 300 mile rides that only take a few days. I can proudly and honestly make the claim that I biked over the Bighorn, Rocky, and Cascade mountains. I wasnt expecting the coast to be so foggy and cold all the time but then again theres been a lot of things I hadnt expected during this trek.

Update 7-17-09 A change in plans
Got an IM update from Ken last night – earlier he had a flat by an RV park so he decided to stay the night. Instead of going to Bend Oregon he has decided to trek southwest to see Crater Lake. Next town enroute is Wagontire Oregon. He figures that he will be about three days on this next leg.

Burns, OR
Im leaving Burns Oregon this morning. I think Im heading toward Bend Oregon but I havent made up my mind yet. Its real hot and theres nothing out there for about 135 miles. I went over two passes yesterday, 4390ft and 4890ft and they werent too tough. After the 9666ft and 8400ft in Wyoming these are just hills. Doing it in the heat does make it tough though.

Msg to Paul:
I will get all the towns posted as soon as time and connectivity coincide with each other. Lately wifi is getting harder to locate and when it is available its not feasible for me to spend excessive time on it.

Update 7-12-09 fr PAR
Heard from Ken this afternoon. He had just finished going about 40 miles into a town called Homedale ID. The night before he slept on the couch of a local sheriff and was given the royal treatment with a home cooked sausage and egg breakfast which included toast and a big glass of milk. I am hoping to hear more about the town and the people later on.
